About ‘Breda blossoms in the evening light’ by JPWFoto

Every year, in early spring, the Japanese cherry tree on Jan van Polanenkade in Breda is in full bloom. From this spot, we have a lovely view towards some of the city’s historic buildings. Of course, the Grote Kerk stands proudly towering above everything, but in the foreground is also the old monastery. Nowadays the site of a luxury hotel and restaurant. During the day, the whole scene is a delight to behold, but 'in the evening, all the colours really come into their own. Especially when the Grote Kerk’s lights come on.
In this instance, I decided not to focus on the sharpness of the buildings, but to create a more abstract image with a shallow depth of field. This allows the blossom to stand out beautifully as the main subject, whilst the colours of the blurred church tower really pop in the photo. A colourful scene with a proud Breda twist!
