The mill was built in 1863 by the Elfrink brothers and put into operation in 1865. Already shortly after construction, two saw windows were narrowed. During the time that the mill was in operation, several floods occurred around the IJssel river, including in 1883, 1920 and 1926. But because the mill is situated at a natural height along the river, only the sawing floor was temporarily flooded. When on July 31, 1911, lightning struck the mill, miraculously it did not burn down. From February 1921, the mill is owned by the nearby steam sawmill Wilpsche Dijk, which subsequently stops using wind power in 1927. The mill fell into disrepair soon afterwards, but proved useful as a storage shed. The mill pond also continued to be used for draining logs. For these reasons, the mill was left in place and was not eventually demolished.
