Boeing E-3 Sentry of NATO, a military Airborne Warning And Control system, also known as AWACS aircraft.
This picture was taken at NATO airbase Geilenkirchen in the beginning of 2021.
Testing and evaluation of the first E-3 took place in October 1975. NATO purchased E-3As for the benefit of the central NATO air defense. Therefore it was decided to compose the crew from air force personnel of all NATO countries, also the NATO E-3's received Luxembourg registration numbers.
The E-3 can fly a mission for more than 11 hours in a row without refueling. The range and mission time can also be significantly extended by air-to-air refueling and by using a crew rest compartment.
