A small paper boat in the middle of a churning ocean. This collage tells a story of hopelessness. Or, conversely, of courage. What is such a small fragile boat doing on the angry sea? I think it is on its way for an important mission. I am convinced the little boat will reach its destination!
All the elements in this work are made of paper. The waves, the little boat and the background.
We have all once folded boats out of paper and made them float on water. Who remembers how to do that?
My work always starts with paper. I infuse it with colour and texture by printing it on a plate. Then I cut collages from it, which I sometimes edit (further) in Photoshop.
I like to show something playful or unexpected in my work.
Ariane is a Dutch artist who have been living in Western Australia for the past 25 years. A few years ago she changed careers from financial marketing to paper cut art.
