About ‘Blue Monday’ by Karlijn Spoor

Blue Monday

In Blue Monday, you see an abstract, tranquil composition of deep blue and grey forms, punctuated by a bold black gesture. It is acrylic paint, graphite powder and watercolour.

The atmosphere in this work balances between tranquillity and restlessness.
I created it on Blue Monday, for many a gloomy day in the darkest period of the year. It was precisely that wintry atmosphere that inspired me: the silence of nature, muddy tracks, grey clouds dispersing like mist, and the cold, blue, deep and turbulent sea. Small, almost hidden details – such as the grainy splashes of pigment and the subtle texture in the grey – give the work a layered quality that only becomes apparent upon closer inspection.

The work depicts dark thoughts which, viewed from a distance, take on an unexpected beauty through their depth and dynamism. I created this during a period when I was struggling mentally. Painting helped me to step back and reflect. What initially felt dark and heavy turned out – just like the winter sea – to possess something powerful and aesthetic, as long as you do not allow yourself to be completely swept away by it.

Hi, I’m Karlijn. I’m an abstract artist from the Netherlands. I started painting during the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to carve out some time for myself and to create freely. I chose abstract art because it gave me the freedom to experiment with materials and focus on the process.

My work is inspired by water and stones – in all their shapes, colours and textures.

What are the delivery times?

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
