Coenraet Decker, 1677 - 1703
The Duke of Parma's ship bridge over the Scheldt blown up on 5 April 1585 by Gianibelli's fireboats.
When the Spaniards laid siege to the city of Antwerp, a bridge was built between the forts of St.-Marie and St.-Filips. This bridge fulfilled its intended purpose; from March 1585, no more shipping was possible over the Scheldt. After a siege of more than a year, the city surrendered in what is known as the Fall of Antwerp.
Coenraet Decker was a printmaker, draughtsman, cartographer born in 1650 in Amsterdam, Holland, Netherlands and died there on 1685-03-02.
