In late summer and autumn, yucca palms have beautiful blossoms which decorate the gardens of the Costa Blanca. Especially in the Mediterranean sunlight, the white eye-catchers look very magnificent and ornamental.
This photograph was taken in the evening, just before sunset. The sunlight makes the petals glow in warm white and golden yellow hues. Against the dark background, the bright, bell-shaped flowers look a bit like small lanterns. This detail shot is part of a photo series dedicated to the decorative plants of the Mediterranean coast in Spain. It is meant to bring Mediterranean flower magic into your four walls.
Blossoms of a palm tree that is actually not a palm tree at all. The yucca palm is actually called the giant palm lily. However, it is not a real palm tree, but an asparagus (Asparagaceae). The name palm lily is due to the similarity of the leaf head to that of a palm tree and its lily-like flowers.
