Galloway beef
Thick-haired, firm, square and stocky - that is the Galloway beef, native to the south-west of Scotland. It is one of the oldest British beef breeds, polled, usually black, but also reddish-brown or even light-coloured. It can withstand extremely rough conditions, but also does well on somewhat richer soil. The Galloway is reputed to be non-aggressive and self-reliant. Galloways can be used for grazing all year round. Related to the Galloway is the Belted Galloway, which, like the Dutch Lakenvelder, has a white band across the body
