In plumage, the black plover is the only nearly black stilt-walker. In other plumage it has more of a redshank. It migrates southwest from its breeding grounds as early as the second half of June. The Dollard is an important stopover site, but on migration, black wheatears can be seen in much of the lowlands, although rarely in large numbers.
