I took this photo in July 2023 near Heijenrath, southern Limburg. What struck me was the contrast between the tranquillity of the landscape and the threat of the weather. On the left, you can see dark thunderstorm clouds slowly spreading across the field. On the right, the sun shines just below the clouds, creating a warm, almost golden light. The wind picked up, it got quiet, and you sensed something was about to change.
The winding path, the big tree and the fields of maize combine to form a typical South Limburg scene. What makes this photo special for me are the small details: the rain veils in the distance, the fresh green, and the purple flowers just visible among the grass. Not a grand scene, but it is precisely this combination of simplicity and tension that makes it powerful.
I like to be inspired by everyday life outside. No distant travels or tall tales - just being in the right place at the right time. The atmosphere in this photo is powerful, but also calm. A typically Dutch moment: you see that something is coming, but it is just not there yet.
In an interior, this work brings tranquillity with an edge. It fits well with people who love nature, openness and honesty in images.
