Between smoke and light - the landscape of Mount Bromo

by Ashwien Jurawan

This breathtaking drone photo shows Mount Bromo, one of Indonesia's most iconic volcanoes, as seen during the first morning light. The plume of smoke slowly rises from the active crater and makes its way through the silent, vast sea of sand that surrounds the volcano. The soft sunlight illuminates the ridges in the landscape, highlighting the texture and shapes left behind by centuries of volcanic activity.

Mount Bromo lies at the heart of the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park in East Java. From the air, the landscape reveals an almost otherworldly character - like looking at another planet. The main crater, with its symmetrical lines and deep grooves, towers up like a natural monument. In the background, the silhouettes of other volcanoes rise, shrouded in a mysterious haze.

What makes this picture special is the combination of movement and stillness. The rising smoke and slow-moving clouds suggest dynamism, while the frozen moment and the emptiness of the landscape evoke a sense of calm and timelessness. It is an image that exudes power but also gives space to unwind.

This image is perfect as a statement piece in any interior. Think of a living room, office or studio where a sense of depth, adventure and natural beauty is welcome. With its earthy tones and spatial composition, it works in both modern and more rustic settings. An ode to the raw beauty of the earth - and the perfect image for lovers of travel, geology and grandeur.
