A frosty morning, after a day and night of heavy snowfall on the plateau of the High Fens, in Belgium. This forest (Noir Flohay, near Malmedy) was destroyed by a fire years ago, leaving only bare partly blackened trees. Knowing that trees are also regularly blown down (during storms, for example) makes this area exude a unique, temporary beauty.
I leave the car park well before sunrise, hoping for a beautiful sunrise at the plateau. Although the sun did not come through at first, it actually created a special quality of light. I shot this picture out of hand and with the telephoto lens (with a focal length of 223 mm).
A while later, the sun peeked carefully between the thick clouds a few times, which allowed me to shoot some nice pictures with the wide-angle lens as well. All in all, a very successful day in this beautiful winter wonderland!
I am always looking for the most beautiful light to capture, whether in the city or in the wilderness near the Arctic Circle. A great personal motivation is to visualize the beauty of nature, in order to inspire others to be more careful with our (home) planet. .. Read more…
