Photo of an old beech tree during sunrise, showing beautiful light on the trunks of the trees in the background. Some ground fog can be seen on the path to the right. The first autumn colors are visible.
This striking tree is well known in the Bakkeveen area. This beech was planted around 1750 in the woods near the Slotplaats in Bakkeveen. The tree stands along 'De Beakendyk' then a 'traffic artery'. Poor hannekemaaiers (seasonal workers) from Germany migrated over the dike towards Drenthe to work. Beech trees stood along the Beakendyk and the paths to the Slotplaats in 1750.
The photo was taken in September 2022.
