A by me digitally restored and cleaned version of "Beauties under an umbrella".
Suzuki Harunobu was a Japanese designer of Ukiyo-e-style woodcut printing. He was an innovator, the first to produce full-colour prints (nishiki-e) in 1765, making the earlier modes of two- and three-colour printing obsolete. Harunobu used many special techniques and painted a wide variety of subjects, from classical poems to contemporary beauties. Like many artists of his time, Harunobu also produced a number of shunga or erotic images. During his life and shortly after many artists imitated his style. Some, like Harushige, even boasted about their ability to forge the work of the great master. Much is unknown about Harunobu's life.
