Around the beachcomber's cottage on Vlieland, colour comes alive. The weathered wood, the motley collection of washed-up items, the ochre of the sand and the blue of the sky combine to form a vivid still life. Each object bears traces of the sea, of distance and time. In this picture, nature and human trace merge into an image full of character. The beachcomber's cottage is central, but the colour tells the story.
