About ‘Beach pole in the wind (Oostvoorne)’ by Sander de jong
In the year 1840, hydraulic engineer Jan Blanken decided, on behalf of the government, to erect piles in the sand along the entire Dutch coast. The piles were placed every 250 metres. The Dutch coast is about 300 km long, so more than 2000 piles were placed on the beach in our country.
