Battleship USS Missouri (BB-63).
The USS Missouri (BB-63) (nicknamed "Mighty Mo" or "Big Mo") is an American Iowa-class battleship. It was the 14th US Navy battleship to be named after the state of Missouri. The USS Missouri is one of the last battleships built by the United States.
The ship was ordered in 1940 and delivered in 1944. In World War II, the ship participated in such events as the landing on Iwo Jima and the battle of Okinawa. On September 2, 1945, aboard the battleship, the surrender of Japan was signed in Tokyo Bay.
The USS Missouri was also deployed during the Korean War from 1950 to 1953. In 1955, the ship was decommissioned and moved to the US Navy reserve fleet, but in 1984, the ship was returned to service in an improved condition. After its return, it was deployed in the 1991 Gulf War, among other things. The USS Missouri was permanently decommissioned in 1992.
The battleship has been a museum ship ever since and is on display at Pearl Harbor. This photo was taken on October 3, 2012.
