Baden-Württemberg : Half-timbered house in Blaubeuren

by Photoart-Naegele

The picture shows an imposing, six-storey half-timbered house against a bright blue sky. It is the famous Hoher Wil in Blaubeuren, Germany.

The house dominates the photo with its unusual height and characteristic half-timbered construction. Dark brown wooden beams form a striking grid pattern on the white plastered or panelled surfaces between them. Some of the beams are arranged diagonally, vertically and horizontally and also form St Andrew's crosses in some places.

Each of the six storeys appears to have windows, many of them with red shutters that are either closed or slightly open. Smaller dormer windows can be seen in the uppermost area under the red tiled roof.

The protruding wooden balcony on the fourth floor is particularly striking. It has a wooden balustrade and is adorned with several flower boxes and decorative elements such as an old wooden wheel.

The house appears to stand directly on a paved street or square, which is visible in the lower part of the picture. A low metal barrier separates the house from the viewer. In the background, other buildings and some greenery can be vaguely recognised, indicating that the house is located in an urban environment.

The bright sunlight emphasises the architectural details of the house and makes the colours appear vibrant. The perspective is taken slightly from below, which makes the height of the building appear even more impressive. Overall, the picture conveys an impression of historical architecture and the charming character of the town of Blaubeuren. Photographed by Photoart-Naegele in April 2025 ( Nikon Z50ii )
