About "Bacchus and Ariadne - Guido Reni, 1620"

About the artwork

Bacchus is in Roman religion the god of wine, and of intoxication and intoxication. Bacchus/Dionysos was represented in ancient times as a (semi-)nude young man with a crown of vine leaves, and accompanied by Ariadne. In art he especially encourages people to enjoy life.

Ariadne is a figure from Greek and Roman mythology and is the goddess of passion. A well-known ballet performance revolves around the abduction of Ariadne by the god Bacchus and their love affairs.

The couple is here exposed on the nude portrait on the waterfront, with the man standing upright and the woman sitting. Of both the guy and the girl almost the whole body can be seen, legs, genitals, abdomen, torso and chest.

Guido Reni (pronunciation: gwē'dō rĕ'nē) (Bologna, 4 November 1575 - there, 18 August 1642) was an Italian painter. As a child he could regularly be found in the studio of the Flemish painter Denis Calvaert in Bologna.
