BMW R 1250 GS Adventure Into the Light by Jan Keteleer

When I painted this scene, I wanted to capture the moment when the road stops being a route and becomes a feeling. A lone rider leans into the journey on a BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, dressed in black leather, gloves and a matte-black helmet with its sun peak catching the light. I placed him slightly left of center, so your eye follows him toward the sharp curve ahead.

I built the bike with care: the dark grey and silver fairings, the gold fork stanchions, the tall windscreen and the horizontal boxer cylinders guarded by silver crash bars. The blue-and-white roundel glows just ahead of his knee like a small promise.

Around him, I let my brushstrokes loosen. Sweeping horizontal marks blur the road and hills, creating motion you can almost hear. The palette moves from deep blue-grey storm clouds to gold, orange and soft white at the horizon. Golden-hour light pours in from behind, tracing the rider's edges and the metal of the machine.

The landscape stays impressionistic, in ochre, brown and dark green, because memory works that way. For me, this painting is about freedom, solitude and the quiet connection we share with everyone who has ever chased the light around the next bend.
