This photograph captures the magical moment when the first rays of the day’s sun touch the snow-capped peaks of the Bernese Alps. What was your inspiration, and how did the image come about?
To capture this fleeting moment, I had to get up early and brave the cold. The inspiration was the silence of the mountains before the first skiers arrived. While the air was bitterly cold and my fingers on the drone’s remote control were slowly going numb, there was an absolute sense of peace. Waiting for the exact moment when the sun rose over the Äebni Flueh was a meditative experience. This drone shot offers a perspective otherwise denied to the human eye—a soaring view over the giants of ice and rock.

Atmosphere and Message
This work conveys clarity, freshness, and the optimistic spirit of a new beginning. The cool blue and white tones of the snow are broken up by the warm sunlight, creating a harmonious balance between “refreshingly cool” and “comfortably warm.”
It is a tribute to untamed nature and a symbol of the tranquility found only at extreme altitudes.

Technique
The image was captured using a high-resolution drone. The challenge was to technically balance the extreme contrasts between the bright sun and the fine details in the shadows without losing the natural lighting atmosphere.
