Autumn light in the Stillach Valley

by Walter G. Allgöwer

Between the flanks of the Stillach Valley, the mountain forest spreads out like a silent tapestry of light and colour, as though autumn had laid all its memories across the slopes of the Allgäu Alps. Golden birches glow amongst dark fields of mountain pine, copper-red crowns shimmer in the sunlight, and silvery leaves whisper of the approaching winter.
Nothing seems to be in a hurry at this moment. The forest seems to breathe, slowly and deeply, as if it knew the secrets of many centuries. Every tree bears its own story, written in bark, wind and annual rings. Together they weave a mosaic of green, yellow, orange and red that flows across the mountain slopes like a silent stream.
The light wanders across the treetops, creating isolated islands of brightness. In between, shadows rest, cool and mysterious, as if they were guarding the dreams of summer. The colours meet without boundary, blending into a harmony that only nature can create.
Here, in the Allgäu in autumn, time loses its rhythm. You gaze upon the forest and sense something primal, something older than words. The mountain forest becomes a silent poem of earth, light and change. And as the leaves glow in anticipation of their farewell, they bestow upon the landscape once more that beauty which only transience can bring forth.
