Autumn leaf in a puddle – An atmospheric, mysterious nature still life

by Fotografiecor .nl

This image captures the tranquil essence of the Dutch autumn in a beautiful, almost abstract detail. The bird’s-eye view and the dark, mysterious hues of the water’s surface draw the viewer’s attention straight to the delicate textures and intense autumnal colours of the leaf. The reflections on the water create a dynamic contrast with the fleeting beauty of the leaf, resulting in a powerful, timeless still life.

For me, photographing autumn leaves in puddles is a form of meditative observation. It reminds us that, on a simple, rainy day, a world of beauty lies hidden along the woodland paths of our own natural surroundings. By capturing these small moments, I bring to life the often-overlooked splendour of autumn.

This work brings a soothing yet intriguing atmosphere to spaces where reflection is central. Thanks to the strong contrast and rich autumnal colours, I recommend a matt acrylic glass finish; this enhances the depth and reflection of the water, making the leaf appear almost to detach from the surface.
