On the Lauwersmeer, in the municipality of Noardeast-Fryslân, you will find the village of Oostmahorn. It is part of the village Anjum.
On the pier you will find a small tower, built around 1930, which used to house a water gauge.
A sounding board is an instrument used to measure the water level, in this case. Nowadays the gauge is seen by many people as a lighthouse or beacon of the village.
