Assekrem is a high plateau in the Hoggar Mountains in southern Algeria. It lies in the Ahaggar National Park and is known for its spectacular scenery and serene, isolated location.
The journey to the Assekrem is long and challenging; we went by 4x4 vehicle (3x) followed by a hike. We were here for film shoots. This adds to the feeling of total isolation and makes it a perfect destination for adventure and nature lovers looking for peace and quiet away from civilisation.
The edited photo of the Assekrem sunrise in Algeria presents itself as a more artistic interpretation of reality, due to the addition of texture and expressive colour treatment.
The texture, which feels both grainy and slightly rough, gives the landscape a tangible quality that goes beyond pure photographic registration. It makes the rock formations, with their majestic peaks and gently rolling contours, almost tangible. This texture enhances the sense of age and the erosion of the elements, as if every rock and mountain carries the history of the desert within it. It gives the image a deeper, almost painterly dimension, inviting the viewer to explore the subtle nuances of the surface.
It is an aesthetic rendering that goes beyond the documentary function of photography; it is an expression of the soul of the landscape.
