Cortona in Tuscany, Italy, is a picturesque town high up on a mountainside with fabulous views down to the valley, Lago Trasimeno and beyond. The town itself is a maze of small alleyways, squares and courtyards with a surprise around every corner.
It is a tourist magnet, and the main street and passages and alleyways leading off it get quite busy. Wander a bit further afield and you get away from the people and noise and see parts of Cortona that are less frequented. Like this view, as we peep around the edge of a stone wall into a street around the corner in Cortona. Great architecture and colors with a typical street with floral decoration and old cobblestones, a red door with marble steps, post in the post box and lots of old architectural features. Traditional doors, marble steps, terracotta plant pots and metal grills on windows. As is typical in an Italian town like this, the houses, or apartments don't have gardens so Italians put their plants outside their front door or on the external walls.
