Cityscape and landscape with the mountains around Salzburg.
Salzburg is a city in Austria and is the capital of the state of the same name. The city lies on the Salzach river in the Flachgau region against the border with Germany.
Initially, Faistauer hesitated between a career as an artist or an author. That he eventually chose painting was largely due to his school friend Albert Paris Gütersloh and a visit to the Vienna Secession exhibition on Impressionism in 1903. He passed the Vienna Academy entrance exam for the second time and was in the same class as Egon Schiele; both artists fought together for common goals. In protest against conservative teaching methods, he founded the Neukunstgruppe with Schiele, Wiegele and Andersen. During this phase of rebellion, his work mainly reflected the spirit of the Secession, sometimes completely suppressing the main source of inspiration from his student days - paintings by Paul Cézanne. This shimmering still life is an image that goes beyond Cézanne's painting style. It is a continuation, a new creation.
Anton Faistauer (Sankt Martin bei Lofer, 14 February 1887 - Clohars-Carnoët, 13 February 1920) was an Austrian painter. He worked mainly in a post-impressionist style.
