Frederick William I (German: Friedrich Wilhelm I.) (Berlin, August 14, 1688 - Potsdam, May 31, 1740) was king in Prussia and elector of Brandenburg (as Frederick William II) from 1713 until his death. In personal union he was the sovereign prince of the principality of Neuchâtel.
The king acquired a militaristic reputation through his predilection for military display. He was known as the King of Soldiers (German: Soldatenkönig).
