2023 is the year of Anthonie van Leeuwenhoek, the Delft scientist who invented the microscope, and with it discovered his own living sperm cells, among other things.

Miauw makes adaptations of famous art, but with a humurous touch. And of course Miauw wanted to honor his fellow (birth)townsman with this naughty variation on the painting by Jan Verkolje made between 1680 - 1686.

About the image:
Anthonie looks very satisfied with his discovery that he made with the help of the self-designed now world-famous microscope in his hand. On the chalkboard to his left you can see his own drawings of the "seed animals" he observed when he viewed his own ejaculation through the microscope lens. To make his hard repetitive work a little easier, he used some contemporary reading lying open on his desk in front of him.

(Fun fact: Anthonie and Johannes Vermeer were not only fellow townsmen, but also knew each other. And according to some sources, it is possible that Anthony is depicted as an Astronomer in the painting by Vermeer of the same name. It is also possible that Vermeer, while making his high-quality painting, used lenses, which may have been sharpened by Anthony.)
