About the artwork

Saiga Abgedrehtschweinstall

Saiga Abgedrehtschweinstall was a Prussian lieutenant colonel of the Second Group Dragonder Battalion from Neumark. Abgedrehtschweinstall owned large estates in the regions of Neumark where agriculture was carried out to provide food for the Prussian Dragonder Battalion, among others. Mainly potatoes were grown there. Now it so happens that the rival Fifth Husar Regiment, which was temporarily stationed nearby, did not exactly get much of that. At one point, a couple of Husaren stole a crate of potatoes from Abgedrehtschweinstall's estate. Unfortunately, the thieves were discovered and Abgedrehtschweinstall ignited in blind rage and mobilised the entire battalion to seek redress. The Husarians did not let this get them down and a small, short but devastating internal conflict broke out. This internal war is known as the Große Kartoffelkrieg 1932. Lieutenant Colonel Saiga Abgedrehtschweinstall was a skilled strategist, however, and defeated the Husars by first launching a mock attack from the west and then using ploughs, manure spreaders and harrows from the east to completely destroy the Husars' tent camp. Reich Chancellor Franz von Papen thought this was too crazy for words and so Lieutenant Colonel Saiga Abgedrehtschweinstall was demoted to in charge of digging latrines. Nevertheless, Abgedrehtschweinstall went down in the history books as the enabler of the Große Kartoffelkrieg 1932.
