About ‘An old disused winding tower in the Ruhrgebier’ by HGU Foto

The top of the old winding tower rises majestically into the sky as a silent witness to past industrial splendour. The tower rises out of the landscape like a lone sentinel from a bygone era, its imposing silhouette marked by time. The top is held in a filigree network of iron struts and braces that unite in ornate arches and scrolls.

The metal, which once shone proudly in dark splendour, is now covered in rust and marked by the weather. The winding tower, once the centrepiece of a thriving mine, now looks like a lonely temple defying the passage of time. The old bricks that form the base of the tower tell stories of hard labour and hardship from days long gone.
