An abstraction of waves and swells in black and white

by AidasignArt

This panoramic abstract artwork in black and white unfolds a fascinating interplay of movement, rhythm and perception. Flowing, undulating lines stretch across the entire canvas, condensing, overlapping and dissolving once more. From this dynamic interweaving emerge organic-looking forms that are reminiscent of a multi-layered symbiosis of waves, currents and swells. The individual elements appear to have grown together, as if they were in a constant process of change.

The minimalist colour scheme directs the viewer’s attention entirely to the power of the line and the effect of the contrasts. As a result, the work develops an intense visual presence that invites the viewer to oscillate between surface and depth, stillness and movement. Depending on the viewing angle and duration of observation, new structures emerge whilst others seem to vanish. This gives rise to optical illusions and deceptive effects that probe the limits of perception.

At the same time, the visual language evokes associations with the psychedelic aesthetics of the 1960s and 1970s. The undulating forms and pulsating patterns are reminiscent of a ‘retro trip’, without, however, becoming mired in nostalgia. Rather, the work combines historical echoes with a timeless exploration of visual phenomena. It moves between abstraction and imagination, opening up a space in which forces of nature, memory and visual experience coalesce into an ambiguous, almost hypnotic overall image.
