Looking out from the edges of the IJsselmeer at the Oostvaardersplassen you can see endlessly far away over the lake. water surface. On the horizon you can see the vibrant skyline of a city with high office buildings, smoking power stations and rotating blades of immense wind turbines.
They are the silhouettes of our capital, Amsterdam, that appear to emerge from the water as a floating island in the middle of a tranquil natural landscape. The dark gray rain clouds slowly gather on the horizon and turn magenta due to the last sunlight of the day. Sunbeams find their way through small openings in the cloud cover and shine their orange colors over the landscape, creating a dynamic color contrast with the blue color of the water. Dark basalt blocks lie on the shore to protect the coast from the constant movement of the incoming waves.
This photo was taken using a special technique that makes it possible to work with low shutter speeds. This quiets the landscape and the dynamics of the waves, makes the complementary colors more intense and enhances the contrasts.
