The 18th-century Raampoortje was located in Amsterdam's city wall, off Bloemgracht. The gate gave access to the bleaching fields outside the wall, where dyed fabrics were laid out to dry on wooden 'windows': this is how the Raampoortje got its name. Here we look from the bleaching fields along the Bloemgracht facades into the winter city. In the distance is the Westertoren. The gate was demolished in 1846.
