Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.

Two small buildings on the Rokin in Amsterdam have withstood the test of time, while everything around them has changed. The first three houses made way for Madame Tussauds and Pull & Bear. But look up: on the third floor, a young woman is still cleaning her windows. A man in a straw hat walks past Henri Sanders’ pharmacy (now Lucy’s). The building where the window cleaner worked now houses The Bakery Shop. Handcarts, wicker baskets, hats – everyday life from a bygone era.
Yet not everything has disappeared. Above the old state lottery office hangs an authentic spionnetje – that classic convex mirror you can still buy and use today. This tiny detail creates an almost magical link between past and present.
This photograph has been lovingly restored from an original glass negative: dust, hairs and scratches removed, sharpened and enhanced while preserving all its authentic atmosphere and charm. A unique piece of living Amsterdam history that never gets boring.
