Amidst lava fields and silent craters

by Rita Fuchs

Amidst Lanzarote’s dark lava fields and gently rolling volcanic cones lies a silence that moves the soul. The landscape seems otherworldly, shaped by fire and time, yet full of unexpected beauty. Black fields of rock stretch to the horizon, whilst the warm hues of the extinct volcanoes appear soft and almost tender in the sunlight.
Amidst this apparent wilderness stand a few whitewashed houses, their bright façades forming a striking contrast to the dark earth. A solitary palm tree rises above the rooftops, lending the scene a touch of life and comfort. It is as though people and nature have struck a silent truce here.
The clouds drift slowly across the deep-blue sky, casting shifting shadows across the volcanic landscape. Every moment changes the scene slightly, bringing forth new colours and revealing new perspectives. The vast expanse offers space for daydreaming, whilst the rugged forms of the lava serve as a reminder of the mighty forces that once created this island.
In this unique landscape of Lanzarote, solitude and beauty merge into a romantic harmony. The island tells tales of fire and wind, of transience and permanence. Anyone who beholds this sight feels the special magic of a place where even the silence speaks its own language.
