Amersfoort's Koppelpoort in the evening with reflection and stars The Koppelpoort is one of the most famous sights in Amersfoort. It is a city gate from the 14th century and was originally part of Amersfoort's city wall. The gate is notable for its unusual architecture, with a round arch and two towers on either side. The Koppelpoort served as defence works and was at the same time the main gateway to the city. Now the gate is a tourist attraction and a popular location for photographs and walks through Amersfoort's historic centre.
