About "American Racing, Ford GT40 No.6"

About the artwork

Print from a series of legendary American racing cars.
The Ford GT40 is a high-performance, mid-engined racing car originally developed and built by the Ford Motor Company for the European endurance races of the 1960s. Its particular aim was to beat Scuderia Ferrari, which had won the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans race six years in a row from 1960 to 1965. Around 100 cars were built, most of them as Mk Is with a 4.7-litre V8 engine (289 cu in), some were sold to private teams or sold as road-legal Mk III cars. Racing began in 1964, and Ford won world championship categories from 1966 to 1968. The first Le Mans victory came in 1966 when three Mk II prototypes with 7.0 litre engines (427 cu in) crossed the finish line together, the second in 1967 by a similarly powerful, heavily modified Mk IV "J-Car" prototype from the USA.
