The American kestrel (Falco sparverius) is a small bird of prey from the family of the falconace (Falconidae) that occurs in large parts of North and South America. The scientific name of the species was published in 1758 by Carl Linnaeus.[2] Its appearance resembles the kestrel (Falco tinnunculus), but the latter species is much larger. The American falcon is the smallest falcon in North America.
