Ameland lighthouse during a thick downpour .The Amelander lighthouse is an imposing sight, without the rhythmic rays, which when darkness falls, shine over the island and the cast iron lighthouse, Ameland would not be the same.

On 10 May 1881, the lights in the tower were lit for the first time. With this light, sailors were warned for the dangerous grounds near the Amelander coast. Upstairs in "the watch" you can empathize and imagine what the life of the lighthouse keeper was like back then. The watch offers a glimpse into this special world of yesteryear. Standing on the circumference you are for a moment in another, high world.
