The Amalfi Coast (named after the town of Amalfi) lies south of the Sorrento Peninsula, which is located in the west of Italy on the Gulf of Salerno. It is around 40 kilometres long and consists of rugged and jagged rocks. This stretch of coast has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.
The Amalfi Coast is one of the most popular holiday destinations in Italy. And rightly so, because the beauty of its steeply sloping rocky coastline, with small, enchanting towns nestled in its gorges and inlets, is unique. The narrow road that winds along the coast is perhaps the most beautiful panoramic road in the world.
