Issus or Kinet Höyük is an archaeological site in southern Turkey. The site is located 30 km north of Iskenderun in Hatay Province 500 m from the present Mediterranean coast.[1] At 3.3 ha, it is the largest ruin mound in Cilicia.
The site is best known because on November 5 or 6, 333 BC, Alexander the Great won a decisive victory there over the Persian king Darius III. Issos was accordingly renamed Nicopolis (city of victory) and a new city was founded nearby: Alexandria near Issos.
Albrecht Altdorfer (near Regensburg, circa 1480 - there, Feb. 2, 1538) was a painter in southern Germany. He is considered the most important representative of the Danube School. In addition to painting, he was also an etcher and architect. He was also a prominent councilor in Regensburg.
