In Saint-Malo, the Breton city of sailors, raindrops still glisten on a green park bench.
The famous Breton rain had, at the time I took this picture, just given way to the sun.
The view stretches across the bay, where the sea with its huge tidal variations sets the rhythm daily. Sometimes, during the famous Grandes Marées, the water rises so high that the city walls themselves are engulfed by the waves. But right now, low tide and just after the rain, silence reigns. Only the bench invites you to take a seat and look out over that beautiful bay.
Green benches in French parks are iconic and they add to the city's aesthetic and historical appeal.
