Mixed media portrait of an African woman with her colourful headscarf. First painted with watercolour and then continued with oil pastel. Oil pastel gives beautiful deep and bright colours . The painting is after my own photo I took when I lived in Gambia / Africa.
There, the colourful headscarves are very skilfully wrapped on their heads by the women, often they even wear two or more cloths. The first cloth they drape tightly around their heads, covering their hair. The other cloth(s ) is to protect them from the sun and so hangs down.
It was such a beauty to capture this colourful proud woman wearing her pink cloth with flowers. I changed the face slightly so that she doesn't look like anyone, this is for privacy reasons.
I have time to draw and paint more after years of volunteer work for the St. Care Foundation The Gambia. Inspiration I got in the Gambia where I also lived. The colors, the population and life is a great source of inspiration. But also the quieter.. Read more…
