Some places in Rotterdam breathe pure football history - Stadion Het Kasteel, home of Sparta Rotterdam, is one of them. From the air, you immediately see why this place is so unique: the stadium is located in the middle of the Spangen district, surrounded by characteristic residential blocks and straight avenues. The iconic main building with its castle towers immediately catches the eye and gives the stadium its nickname.
What inspired me about this drone photo is the interplay between architecture, sports and real city life. You see the green field as the heart of the district, surrounded by the colourful houses and the typical Rotterdam street pattern. For many Rotterdammers - and especially Spartans - this is a place full of memories, passion and pride. Football history has been written here for generations.
