Exciting scene where Jesus stands as a broad-breasted man in the portrait with a woman in his arms standing naked next to it. The lady stands on the nude portrait as a nude model so that her hip, torso and breasts are visible.
The image shows a darkened male figure holding an apparently dead nude female body, illuminated by pale light. The image is reminiscent of the motif of Christ's descent from the cross, familiar in Christian art, only here it is not Mary mourning her dead son, but rather a man mourning a woman. The erotic depiction of the naked female body is the actual theme of the picture, which seems all the more scandalous since, according to the title of the picture, the man is Jesus Christ. The photographs of Adolf Frey-Moock, who was clearly influenced by Munich Art Nouveau artist Franz von Stucks, often show symbolic, enigmatic, sometimes erotic representations from antiquity and Christianity.
Adolf Frey-Moock (born 11 August 1881 in Jona in the canton of St Gallen, Switzerland; 25 June 1954 in Steinebrunn or Affeltrangen in the canton of Thurgau) was a Swiss painter who also worked in Munich.
