Originally known for its tropical plants, glass dome and exotic design, Tropicana's novelty vanished as more low-cost travel options became available. After it was abandoned, it fell into disrepair until 2013, when BlueCity transformed it into a hub for sustainable businesses promoting the circular economy. Today, Tropicana's transformation embodies Rotterdam's embrace of sustainable innovation, evolving from a symbol of leisure to a model of urban renewal, inspiring similar projects across Europe.
