The Monastery of Nossa Senhora do Castelo das Covas de Monfurado, also known as Convento dos Monges, is an 18th-century ruin nestled in the Monfurado mountains near Escoural, Portugal. Founded by hermits who once lived in ancient Roman caves, it later became a religious community. Severely damaged by the 1755 earthquake and abandoned after the dissolution of monasteries in 1834, it now stands in decay. Despite being a Classified Heritage Site (since 1977), it remains neglected, with collapsed structures and fading murals. Private property, but a hauntingly beautiful relic of the past.
