Tips for use

About ‘ALBENGA VILLA FORTEZZA LA COLOMBERA THE PINK HOUSE IN THE WOOD by Enrico Pelos’ by Enrico Pelos

Abandoned place (at the time of the photo) with windows with a panorama facing Gallinara island and just below the ancient Roman road Via Iulia Augusta of great historical and archaeological value.
The villa fortress is located in a small valley on the border between Albenga and Alassio, with towers, sentry boxes, and dovecotes and once belonged to the monks of the island. It was later purchased in 1565 by the Marquises Ferrero of Ventimiglia. The family fell victim to pirate raids on the Ligurian coast and on one occasion they also kidnapped their son Scipione and for whom a large ransom was paid.
In recent years it has been in a state of neglect for a long time...
Wandering around its large rooms lets you "breathe" the ancient and modern history of farmers who have left behind old barrels and accessories from past harvests...
Seeing the many provisional things such as beds, blankets, backpacks, camp stoves, and an old fridge... let us understand how it was frequented by both tourists and people passing through looking for makeshift accommodation...
(The place has now been restored and is the private property of a family who oversaw its construction to make it a holiday home and farm with olive groves, vineyards, and vegetable gardens.)
