Suddenly I remembered it again: that first drawing lesson in first grade, just out of kindergarten. 'Draw a tree.' In my memory, I made a very beautiful tree trunk, full of wrinkles and knots. What was up there? Leaves! I drew a leaf, then another, another, another ... as many as a thousand! I was totally absorbed in that tree!
By then, the original drawing was gone many years ago. I decided to make a painting of the drawing as I remembered it. And once again I became totally absorbed in the drawing process and got into a flow. So the theme of this work is concentration.
The image of the tree is an old symbol and a strong form. The red areas on the right and left let the tree trunk emerge from the dark lower surface. From the dark earth, the tree gradually moves towards the light above.
